Coming Back After a Fall

You never know what trials you will go through in your life, and what you may have to overcome. Jill’s story is a great example of being in a place you never expected and making your way back to where you want to be.

Jill used to look at people who are homeless and think “they’re just feeling sorry for themselves” until she experienced homelessness herself. “It was scary. I don’t know anything about street life and I had to experience everything right from scratch,” she says.

After going through a divorce and coping by drinking and experimenting with drugs, Jill found herself going downhill very fast. “I had lost my home, and I didn’t know what to do. I was all by myself. I was scared,” she says. Then one day she was dropped on the doorstep of Siloam Mission by her ex-husband. It was the chance she needed to get herself back together and her life began to change.

“I came to Siloam Mission and they straightened me out, offered me a chance to get myself back together,” Jill says. Now part of the MOST (Mission: Off the Street Team), Jill is rebuilding her self-esteem and says, “My life and my attitude toward homeless people have changed 110%.” Jill now has a goal to return to school and get a job working in a nursery. Siloam Mission is helping her get there.
