Brining Homelessness Into View

Often the issues surrounding poverty and homelessness, and the people struggling with these issues, go unnoticed. For most of us, for much of the time, it’s just not on our radar. Under the Radar is designed to change the way you view domestic poverty and to help you understand that there is something you can do to make a difference. It is our hope that you will become more aware of the hurt in our city and that this will motivate you to make change happen. We want to bring homelessness to the forefront by encouraging participants to learn more about related topics and by allowing them to serve in the places, and with the people, who are often under the radar of our society.

Workshops (beginning January 13)

Our Under the Radar Workshops are designed for adults and will help you on your continuing journey of becoming optimistic, solution-based advocates for change and domestic social justice. If you’re 18 years of age or over, these educational workshops will give you an opportunity to learn more about a variety of topics relating to poverty and homelessness.

Workshops are held on weekday evenings once a month at Siloam Mission and run in a series of 6. Schedules will be posted soon! Come learn more about poverty in Winnipeg and put homelessness back on your radar. See Schedule for workshop topics!

Youth Summer Camp

An inner-city experience designed with church youth groups in mind, our Under the Radar Summer Camp is designed to allow students aged 14 to 18 to confront their thoughts about poverty and homelessness while serving their neighbours. Let’s put homelessness on the radar!

If you’re a youth leader looking for a fun and educational opportunity for your students, we have just the thing! It’s all planned out for you including service opportunities, educational sessions, meals, entertainment, and accommodations. You can sign up for this exciting 4 day/3 night camp during the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, week of July, 2010. Individual registrations are also welcome!

Early registration on or before June 1, $125 per person. Registration after June 1, $150 per person. Your fee covers all activities, a t-shirt, a resource package, all meals and snacks, accommodations, and entertainment.

Mission Teams

Catered to your group, our Under the Radar Mission Teams option is an opportunity for a multi-day inner-city experience. Focused on service with an educational component, your team will learn from hands on projects and serving opportunities.

Open to anyone aged 14 and over, Mission Teams can be church groups, high school teams, college or university teams, community groups, or business groups. Together with the leadership of the group, we’ll develop an informative and fulfilling event at your chosen time of year. Your team can help put homelessness on the radar.
