Oak Park High School Raises $1,000 for Winnipeg’s Less Fortunate

Charleswood-Area School Sponsors The Meal For A Day, Volunteers To Serve Lunch

Winnipeg, Thursday February 23, 2012 – More than 60 students sitting on Oak Park High School’s Community Service Committee raised $1,000 to sponsor today’s lunch at Siloam Mission – and a group of them will be serving it, too.

Starting at noon today, 16 students from the Charleswood-area school will volunteer to prepare and serve the meal they helped provide.

Oak Park High School is the first school to take part in the Sponsor A Meal Program – a corporate sponsorship program developed by Siloam Mission, which gives businesses a chance to partner with the downtown homeless shelter at four different levels.

The students raised most of the funds over the Christmas season by selling pictures with Santa, popcorn and pizza at lunchtime.

WHAT: 16 students from Oak Park High School will prepare and serve lunch at Siloam Mission today, which they helped provide with a $1,000 donation.

WHEN: Thursday, February 23, 2012 | 12:00 – 1:00

WHERE: Siloam Mission, 300 Princess St., Winnipeg

Students, school staff and Siloam Mission staff will be available for interview.
