Sharing The Love Through Food

A community celebration this spring became a blessing for more than just those who attended.

The Norwood Community Centre’s Spring Fling brought together hundreds of residents for a free community event with food and family activities. When the event was over, organizers realized they had plenty of unopened food left over.

Dr Lea Stogdale from the centre’s board of directors says she immediately thought of Siloam Mission. As a regular donor, she had visited us for a tour and seen first-hand how important donated food is to our kitchen, and the positive impact it has for our guests who come to us for a meal.

“We wanted anything left over to go to charity,” she says. “Because I knew Siloam uses a lot of food every day, I knew they would appreciate some good quality food.”

When Lea reached out to us about sharing the unused food, we had it delivered to The Madison, our supportive housing facility in the Wolseley area. That evening our kitchen was able to treat the residents to some delicious burgers for dinner, all because of the thoughtful generosity of caring people within our community.

Thanks to donations like these – and the support of donors like you – the 85 residents of The Madison and the hundreds of guests in who visit our Drop In daily can count on nutritious meals each and every day.

If you have questions about donating food or other items to Siloam, give us a call at 204-956-4344 or email donategoods@siloam.ca.
