As part of our commitment to creating sustainable solutions that benefit our community, Siloam Laundry Service (SLS) was established as part of our Building Futures program. Previously, we had outsourced our laundry needs to another company, which drained our valuable resources that could have been better utilized in serving our community. By establishing SLS as a social enterprise, we have been able to take care of our laundry needs in-house while generating revenue that can be directed towards supporting programs and services within Siloam.

Siloam Laundry Service offers a range of commercial laundry services to businesses, non-profits, and community organizations. Our services include professional laundering of uniforms, linens, and clothing, with pick-up and delivery options available. The service employs people who are experiencing homelessness, offering stable jobs and opportunities for training, as well as the full connected supports of Siloam Mission with the goal of reducing the impacts of homelessness. By choosing SLS, you are not only getting high-quality laundry services, but you are also contributing to a worthy cause and making a positive impact on our community.

What is a Social Enterprise?

A social enterprise is a business that has a social or environmental mission at its core, and seeks to achieve that mission through its operations and products. It combines the commercial goals of a for-profit company with the social impact of a nonprofit organization, in which Siloam Mission is. Siloam Laundry Services is a certified social enterprise through Buy Social Canada.

FAQs

Who are your employees?

Siloam Laundry Service employs current community members actively engaged in our programming and receiving our services. They receive a pay cheque and are considered equal contributors alongside any other Siloam employee.

We take great pride in our commitment to providing permanent and meaningful employment opportunities to our community members. As such, we do not rely on temporary or day laborers, but rather invest in the training and development of our team to ensure their success and fulfillment in their roles.

By choosing to partner with Siloam Laundry Service, you are making a meaningful contribution to our mission of empowering individuals to achieve self-sufficiency and a fresh start in their employment journey.

Will you be washing my laundry in the same load as other clients?

We hold ourselves to the highest standards of care and attention to detail in our Laundry Service. It is our policy to never commingle laundry from multiple customers. We recognize that each of our clients has their own specific needs and preferences for their laundry, and we are committed to ensuring that these requirements are met with the utmost respect and consideration.

Will I get my own laundry back?

Yes, we operate with complete transparency and accuracy, as we do not rent linens or hold uniform stock, ensuring that clients receive their exact items back.

Do you offer same day service?

Yes, we offer the option for same-day service, and interested clients may contact us for a personalized quote.

Where does the revenue from the social enterprise go?

The social enterprise provides quality employment to Winnipeggers experiencing homelessness and those who are transitioning into housing. All revenue from the laundry service is used to pay the wages of our laundry service team, all of whom currently access services at Siloam. Further revenue is utilized to fund programs benefitting our community such as workplace skill-building, arts and cultural activities, and healthcare, among others. By supporting us with your business, you are investing in the services our community members need to get back on their feet and back in the job market.

Is your social enterprise accredited?

Yes, we are an accredited social enterprise with Buy Social Canada.
