Siloam Mission is seeking candidates for its Board of Directors.
Siloam Mission seeks to offer Christ’s compassionate love to all who are in need of support, healing, and recovery. Many in our society struggle to meet their basic needs, so we offer support to do just that: clothing, food, shelter, and belonging. For so many who experience that struggle they are also experiencing isolation, medical concerns, and more, and so we offer healing programming in mental health, addiction recovery, and the health centre. We know each person has the capacity to recover. For those who have few other avenues to move forward on that journey, we seek to offer meaningful holistic accompaniment.
With the help of dedicated volunteers and generous donors, Siloam Mission’s staff and volunteers work with our community members through a comprehensive range of programs and services. We provide emergency services such as food, clothing and shelter; recovery services through our medical clinic, mental health and addictions recovery programs; and transitional services involving one-on-one counselling, housing placement and employment programs. Siloam Mission is a capacity-building organization that adheres to best-practice in all of its programs and services.
Siloam Mission is committed to serving everyone who enters the doors. We are an equal opportunity employer and promote an inclusive and diverse environment. Furthermore Siloam has created and is implementing its own Truth and Reconciliation strategy which is focused on responding to the Calls to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s report that are appropriate for Siloam, our employees, our Community Members, and reflect our organizational commitment to right relations with Indigenous Peoples.
Siloam Mission’s Board of Directors comprises volunteers from diverse backgrounds and experiences who are dedicated to the organization’s mission and are supportive of its faith foundation. Siloam seeks board members personally aligned with Siloam Mission’s Statement of Faith, which can be found on our website at www.siloam.ca/about-us. However, the Board may waive this requirement for individuals who are comfortable volunteering with a Christian humanitarian organization that expresses the love of Christ through its humanitarian work.
Our primary consideration for board recruitment is to find individuals passionate about Siloam’s mission and vision, who have a deep desire to help those experiencing homelessness in Winnipeg and ensure service excellence at Siloam.
We also wish to recruit leadership that will fill specific competency needs and/or help us become more diversified as a board.
The Board is responsible for the governance and oversight of Siloam Mission. Upholding its fiduciary responsibilities in the most ethical of manners, the Board balances the work of stewardship and strategic leadership.
The Board seeks to be diverse, inclusive, and reflective of the community we serve and is currently seeking new board members. We are seeking a minimum of one First Nations person who will inform the many functions of the Board through their own cultural lens. We are also seeking to fill specific skills gaps to complement the existing Board Member’s skills and experience:
- Work or lived experience in addictions recovery.
- Work or lived experience in supportive housing.
- Understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing in traditional and contemporary settings
- Board officer experience (chair, vice chair)
The following are the expectations of all Board Members:
- Understanding of best practices for Board governance, the Board/CEO relationship, and the Board of Directors’ responsibilities and fiduciary duties
- Financial literacy
- Alignment with Siloam Mission’s core Mission, Vision, and Values, as well as an understanding of and respect for the Christian faith on which the organization is founded
- Respect for diverse spiritual and cultural communities
- Brings a curious, respectful, thoughtful, and strategic perspective
Next Steps:
If you are interested in being considered for a position on the Board, help us understand how your own experiences and skills help us address the gaps we are trying to fill within our Board. Cover letter and resume may be addressed to the Board Chair or may be submitted by email to boardchair@siloam.ca.
Please note that applications received which indicate a potential conflict of interest will not be considered.
