Siloam Mission to Host Third-Annual Siloam Sleepout This Fall
In-person event aims to deepen understanding of homelessness and raise $40,000
Winnipeg, MB (June 10, 2021) – This fall, Siloam Mission is bringing back one if its largest annual events for an in-person experience.
On September 23, the agency will host the 3rd annual Siloam Sleepout ― a continuation of the former CEO Sleepout. This year’s event will resume the in-person experience that made the event what it was – a chance for participants to challenge themselves and learn about the realities of homelessness while spending a night outdoors.
“We are so excited to bring back one of our largest events of the year and welcome people in-person to participate in this powerful experience,” says Kathi Neal, Lead Executive at Siloam Mission. “We expect that both new and returning participants will be challenged and inspired as they spend a night outside learning together, and supporting those experiencing homelessness.”
Last year, pandemic restrictions forced a pivot to an online event, and the Virtual Siloam Sleepout raised $26,000 for Siloam’s core services and programs. This year, the goal is to raise $40,000 to support newly expanded services at Siloam Mission, including new shelter beds and programs to help people transition out of homelessness.
The Siloam Sleepout will run from the evening of Thursday, September 23rd to the morning of the 24th, and will include a variety of in-person experiences including a Blanket Exercise, a panel discussion of lived experience and subject matter experts, and tours of both the mission’s facilities and the neighbourhood.
For the first time, Siloam is also inviting schools to participate by hosting their own satellite events. These will take place at the schools and be led by teachers, connecting virtually for portions of the event via livestream. Students will register as part of a school team and fundraise together for the event.
All activities will be subject to provincial health restrictions.
Registration for the Siloam Sleepout is now open. To register or for more information, visit www.siloam.ca/sleepout.
The Siloam Sleepout is sponsored by CTV, 103.1 Virgin Radio, 99.9 BOUNCE Radio, and Funny 1290AM.
