Winter is one of the most difficult times of the year for someone without a home. The struggle to stay warm becomes a matter of survival. With temperatures often dipping well below freezing, having a warm place to sleep isn’t just a comfort – it’s a lifeline.

That’s why Siloam Mission’s Winter Overnight Warming Space has been such a vital resource for our community. Since its opening on December 18, 2024, over 900 individuals have already found warmth and safety when other shelters were full.

Nearly 50% of those individuals have used the space only once – indicating it’s a critical, life-saving space for emergency situations.

This year, we’ve removed the temperature threshold, ensuring that anyone who needs it has a place to stay. With a capacity of 116 people, the Warming Space has become a critical safety net during these harsh winter months.

We are deeply thankful to the Winnipeg Foundation for their prompt support, allowing us to open the space while we await federal funding. Our dedicated overnight staff are there every night, offering food, water, emergency clothing, and a safe place for people to rest.

The Warming Space may be temporary, but the hope and relief it offers are real. It’s a reminder of the growing need for long-term housing solutions to address homelessness. As we continue working toward that goal, we are thankful for the support of our community to help make this space possible.
